Cindy Nguyen From Regit - Interview On the Hustlers Journal

Super Super Dope July 31, 2018

What motivates you to get out of bed in the morning?’

I believe life is beautiful. My motivation stems from my work, life, friends, family… who needs sleep anyway?

The best part of my day is the morning. I’m the most productive and I enjoy ticking off the hardest tasks before everyone else gets up. Life has completely change for me now that I have my own company - getting up is not a pain anymore as it is welcoming.

Why did you start you Regit?

There are three inflection points in my life that lead me to start Regit.

15 years ago when I needed to make money to fund university, I worked at a car manufacturing plant sanding 80 car bumpers a day over the night shift. Here I developed an intense aversion for repetition; Even for simple actions, such as filling out my name on a piece of paper, I would experience disappointment and inconvenience.

Secondly, I wanted to make money by winning competitions, and then selling the contest prizes to make extra money, and instead, I won the 'spam lottery', receiving tons of unsolicited emails and messages. That’s when I started to be interested in data privacy and advocacy.

Thirdly, during my professional career, my biggest burden was managing customer data even though it was not the primary focus of my roles. I realized that most businesses struggle with incomplete, outdated, and missing customer contact information. There were no good solutions out there that enabled an individual's convenience, empowers their rights to privacy and allows them control and management of their own data.

Hence, Regit was established to empower and respect customer's privacy, help businesses' create a culture of accountability and provide business an 'all in one tool' for their customer data management. Businesses' requesting data need to use tools that respect privacy and take ownership of accountability to the individuals privacy; Regit is a tool to facilitate trust between individuals and businesses.

What do you enjoy most with running your own hustle?

I feel a fulfilment that comes from building a business from scratch and seeing it come to life, its incomparable to any accomplishment that I have achieved before in my career. Life of an entrepreneur is not that easy, however, it is “super super” rewarding, to a point that my biggest fear now is, could I ever have to go back to the corporate world?

Can you tell me about a time when you almost gave up, how you felt about that, and what you did instead of giving up?

Running you own business, naturally means there are disappointments every single day, but, you get stronger and I am becoming more resilient to challenges. Im not sure if this is grit or just ignorance – There hasn’t been a time where I wanted to give up, it’s not something I would accept. How I keep myself or my team going is that we agree to disagree, and we work and play hard as well. To overcome the challenges of a young company, we make it a point to celebrate every win, however so small.

Any advice for talent looking to set up their own hustle?

YES! Be brave, be bold, and just go for it. Tomorrow might never come and everyone is capable of taking the “Im” out of impossible. Nothing is more rewarding than proving that you can do anything you put your mind to.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Just do it” - by Nike. It empowers strength, determination, a movement, a lifestyle. The slogan applies to everyone and to anything, whether in life or in work - it resonates. It’s bold and straightforward which mirrors my character and the values I stand for.
